Resistance to Water Penetration of Fabrics
The maximum hydrostatic head pressure of fabrics defines their waterproof limits, ensuring accurate and reliable performance under increasing hydrostatic head pressure.
The maximum hydrostatic head pressure of fabrics defines the waterproof limits of materials by measuring their resistance to water penetration under a steadily increasing hydrostatic head pressure, expressed in cmH2O/min or mbar/min, ensuring accurate waterproof performance evaluation.
Test results are expressed in mmH2O, cmH2O, mbar or other measuring units on request and are defined only after the first three water drops appear on the external surface of the fabric sample, according to the test method described in Standard ISO 811:2018.
The pneumatic sample clamping system is designed to ensure perfect sealing of the material, minimizing side water leaks around the test area and ensuring the proper increment of hydrostatic head pressure during the test.
Water Proof Branca 35S can be supplied with auxiliary test area reductions of 10, 26 and 28 cm² for AFNOR Standard, to be coupled on flanges with 100 cm² test area.
The hydrostatic head pressure tester allows reaching the waterproof limits of hydrostatic head pressure up to 50 mH2O as a higher measuring range, useful for several test methods and suitable for water-resistant fabrics, technical textiles, waterproof membranes and more.
The hydrostatic head pressure test with Water Proof 35S can be performed on:
HMI Touch Screen 7" is a user-friendly interface for all end users who need to manage the apparatus during test performances, including remote control functions.
The certificate of Water Proof Branca 35S is released on request and issued by accredited laboratories such as ACCREDIA, ENAC, UKAS, TUNAS accreditation bodies.
Water Proof Branca 35S is the hydrostatic head pressure tester able to offer a selection of several test procedures:
|
DYNAMIC TEST METHOD Increase of hydrostatic head pressure until reaching the waterproof limit of the material (3-drops test). |
|
STATIC TEST METHOD 24/48 hours keeping hydrostatic head pressure stable at the selected setpoint. |
|
PROFILE TEST METHOD (on request) Hydrostatic head pressure test trend with multiple ranges set by the operator. |
Built-in ASCII Printer (48 columns)
The test report listing is issued by the built-in ASCII printer. On the printed reports the following input data are included:
Application software BWP 4.0 with runtime licence
The application software collects all transmitted and received data and generates statistical evaluations, real-time trend graphs, data monitoring, logging functions and other useful software features. The app includes a CSV file export function and communicates with the hydrostatic head pressure tester through a USB or Ethernet port mounted onboard.

Analyzing the fabric subjected to a gradually increasing hydrostatic pressure, detecting at which limit pressure value the first passage of water through the sample takes place.
The test method is the one described above: at the start of the test the water level must rise by 1 cmH2O per second or 60 cmH2O/min. The fabric is observed until the first 3 drops of water appear on the external surface.
The maximum hydrostatic pressure data indicated on the touch screen at the end of the test is then determined. The latter will be the waterproofing value of the fabric.
The purpose of the static test method is to verify the fabric sample subjected, for a time of 24 or 48 hours, to a determined pressure which remains constant for the entire time of the test. After this period of time, the results obtained are checked and a judgment is expressed regarding the lower face of the test piece.
The lower face of the fabric during the test:
With this type of test it is possible to determine the degree of effectiveness of the permeabilization process applied to the fabric.
