The Abrasion tester 66 is the ideal instrument suitable for abrasion tests according to UNI 7858 and pilling tests according to ASTM-D-59T on fabrics, sponges, porous and elastic samples with loss of materials and other materials.

Bristle and nylon brushes, abrasive cloth or fabric are employed as abrasive holder according to the test procedures adopted by the operator commonly used for abrasion tests, while only for pilling tests the use of fabric is required.

Continuous or alternate rotating direction both clockwise or counterclockwise with Start&Stop automatic loop cycles avoiding any orientation of fiber samples in only one direction and simulation of word on sample materials and result conditions more closely real to standard use.

Specific criteria to follow the execution of the tests are described below:

  • Analyses on turns no. with subsequent loss of material
  • Δm (%) = (mf / mi)*100
    Where:

    Δm = mass loss
    mf =sample mass after the abrasion
    mi = sample mass before the abrasion

  • Analyses on turns no. needed to generate the first breaks on sample
  • %P: (Pf / Pi)*100;

Where:

P = Physical resistance loss under perforation
Pf = Physical resistance loss after perforation
Pi = Physical resistance before perforation

The vertical position of the test area is definitely the right choice to do this test kind allowing to drop down abraded material without influencing test specimen surface under performance test.

A special mechanism is fitted-in to maintain tightly fixed the sample under examination without any stretches.
Abrasive assessment is generated by a strength test between abraded and no abraded strips, appearance, loss in weight, thickness and number of “pills” per unit area.

OBJECTIVE: To determine abrasion resistance by measuring the residual tensile strength. The validity of the test is limited to direct comparison between samples tested under the same conditions.

TEST METHOD:
The fabric to be tested, held in place in a frame, is subjected to the action of an abrasive paper mounted on a circular support with planetary motion.
After a specified number of cycles, determined for each fabric, the loss of tensile strength compared to the original fabric is measured. Generally, it is advisable to operate so that after abrasion, the tensile strength is between 2/3 and 1/3 of the original strength, and the test duration does not exceed 700 cycles.
