Laboratories for paper and board ISO 187
The physical properties of the paper and paperboard are strongly influenced by moisture content which depends on indoor temperature and relative humidity where the samples are stored.
Paper or paperboard samples must be maintained at Standard Atmosphere, thus keeping in equilibrium the thermo-hygrometric conditions that surround it; once exposed to the outdoor conditions for long periods the results between two weighing of the same material in a period of at least one hour mustn't have any variations greater than 0,25%.
Following this concept method we can resume that at first it is absolutely necessary to keep specimens in thermo-hygrometric stability inside a Paper testing Lab or storage room at constant thermo-hygrometric conditions and as second step but not less important to perform tests at the same climatic conditions.
For Paper testing Labs Standard Atmosphere are requested according to the various trades and to the international Standards; the reference norm ISO 187 establishes the "Standard Atmosphere" according to the following parameters:
ATMOSPHERE "A" - UNI EN ISO 187

|Relative humidity:||(50 ± 2)%;|
ATMOSPHERE "B" - UNI EN ISO 2233:2001
|Temperature:||(20 ± 1)°C;|
|Relative humidity:||(90 ± 2)%|
The ambient tolerances should be considered as permissible spacial gradients variations around the specified SetPoint values. The choice of a precision air conditioning solution able to obtain STANDARD ATMOSPHERE "A" or "B" has to be considered in both cases as it has to be adopted according to its specific Requirements.
In Paper Testing Laboratories the records of temperature (°C) and R.H. (%) should be saved periodically with a datalogging system or electronic log recorder according to reference acceptable limits previously described. The laboratory parameters setting and data collection must be red by independent probes from those used for regulation; the probe sensors technical specifications has to comply with the uncertainties of measurement specified for temperature and R.H..
